Periodontitis<\/h1>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWhen gum disease or gingivitis is not treated in time, it progresses to the second stage of gum disease in a small group of people.\nThis second stage is called periodontitis.\nIn periodontitis, fibers and jawbone are also damaged by the inflammation.\nThis damage cannot be repaired, which is why it is so important to treat gum disease on time and prevent worse.

\n\n How does periodontitis develop?<\/strong>
With gum disease, the space between your gums and your teeth gets bigger and deeper.\nThis space is called pockets.\nBacteria can penetrate deeper and deeper as these pockets get bigger.\nThere, the bacteria can attack fibers and damage jawbone.\nAs the pockets get deeper, you are unable to remove the bacteria with your toothbrush, toothpicks or interdental brushes.\nThe inflammation continues to spread and you lose even more jawbone.\nInterestingly, periodontitis almost never causes pain.\nAs a result, you don’t readily notice it yourself.\nAt a more advanced stage, your teeth may loosen.\nAnd your teeth become more sensitive to heat and cold as roots become exposed.

\n\n Treating Periodontitis<\/strong>
Treatment of periodontitis can stop further deterioration.\nTreatment depends on the severity of the periodontitis.\nDuring a visit to our practice, we measure the depth of the pockets.\nWith this, we determine the degree of periodontitis and advise you on the appropriate treatment. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Preventing Periodontitis<\/span><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, treatment cannot repair the damage done to the gums and jawbone.
\nNot everyone who has gingivitis develops periodontitis over time.
\nWhy this happens is not yet fully understood.
\nHowever, it is known that not everyone has the same types of bacteria in their mouths.
\nSome people have “more aggressive” bacteria in the plaque, putting them at greater risk of jawbone loss.
\nHealth, resistance and lifestyle habits also play an important role in getting periodontitis.
\nFor example, smoking, stress and diabetes increase the risk of developing periodontitis. <\/p>\n

So far, unfortunately, it is impossible to predict in whom gingivitis will progress to periodontitis.
